It is always our goal to make sure you’re informed and aware of updates happening in the Medicare market. This year, a handful of members have received a letter from their insurance carrier about a “Service Area Reduction” to their current coverage for the upcoming plan year (2026).
A Service Area Reduction (SAR) occurs when Medicare Advantage Plans and/or Prescription Drug Plans decide to stop offering that coverage in certain areas, and members are required to choose a new plan to avoid a lapse in coverage.
If you received a notice about this change, you have a few options:
- Enroll in another Medicare Advantage Plan / Part D Prescription Drug Plan available in your area
- Return to Original Medicare (with option to add a Medicare Supplement and/or Part D Prescription Drug Plan)
Either way, one of our licensed agents can help make this transition as seamless and stress-free as possible. And regardless if you have received this letter or not, now is a great time to review your coverage in general to ensure it still meets your needs come 2026. SBS is here to help!
