Coverage begins the same day your Medicare starts or the month after selecting a plan. A set time each year that you are able to make changes to your current Medicare or Prescription Drug Plan coverage. Coverage begins January 1 of the next year.
MA Open Enrollment PeriodSpecial Enrollment Period
January 1 – March 31Varies For Special Scenarios
Occurs January 1 – March 31 or within 3 months of when you first get Medicare. Switch to another Medicare Advantage Plan or return to original Medicare. Coverage begins the month following your plan request.IE: You’re moving to a new address, you’re over 65 and still working with employer group coverage, or you’re receiving Medicaid / Extra Help. Coverage typically begins the month after you sign up.
