DID YOU KNOW…. that May 2nd is National Life Insurance day?

“National Life Insurance Day is observed annually on May 2nd.  This day marks the anniversary of the first day life insurance became available in the United States. The sale of life insurance in the U.S. began in the late 1760s. The Presbyterian Synods in Philadelphia and New York City created the Corporation for Relief of Poor and Distressed Widows and Children of Presbyterian Ministers in 1759. On May 2, 1759, the charter was recorded for the Corporation for Relief of Poor and Distressed Widows and Children of Presbyterian Ministers. Episcopalian priests created a comparable relief fund in 1769. Between 1787 and 1837 more than two dozen life insurance companies were started, but fewer than half a dozen survived.”

At #teamSBS we know that planning for your final expenses isn’t an easy thing to do, but it’s a heavy weight to place this responsibility on loved ones after your passing. If it’s hard to make these decisions today, imagine your loved ones trying to do it during an emotional time – especially if this time comes unexpectedly.

Why Life Insurance?

  • Income or Social Security Replacement – If social security averages around $1,200 a month, that’s over $12,000 a year in lost income when you or your loved one passes away. This can have a significant impact on yours (or their) financial stability.
  • Monthly Bills – mortgages, debt, etc. unfortunately don’t disappear after a death and it’s important to ensure there are plans in place to cover these.
  • Funeral and Burial Expenses – these expenses alone can put a serious strain on you or your loved ones. Out of pocket expenses for funerals average around $8,500!
  • Flexibility – beneficiaries can use these funds for anything such as: burial costs, medical expenses, bills / other debts, college funds, etc.
